Aloha! Josh Fiedler is back to share a review of his first visit to Disney’s Aulani Resort in Oahu, Hawaii.
Josh shares his planning tips, and then we dive deep into all that Aulani has to offer, including dining, activities, recreation, the beach, and more. We also discuss other activities to do around Oahu.
Planning the Vacation
Josh shares how far ahead of the vacation he booked Disney’s Aulani Resort and how he booked their room. We discuss why Josh chose to visit Hawaii in January and how that benefitted him with some deals and lower room prices.
Josh flew from Newark, New Jersey to Honolulu, Hawaii, which is a 6-hour time difference. We talk about how Josh and his husband adjusted to the time difference and tips for long flights.
Disney’s Aulani Resort
The Imagineers incorporated so much of Hawaii’s culture into the design of Disney’s Aulani Resort. We share how ‘Ohana (family) is a big part of the storytelling around the resort and various design aesthetics. There are two towers with various room types available: standard rooms, studios, and larger units with one, two, or three bedrooms that can hold up to 12 guests. Every room has either a balcony or a patio.
Recreation and Activities at the Resort
There is lots to do with water around the resort. Enjoy 6 pool areas, with lazy river and water slides. There’s even a 2-level infinity pool only for adults. Get there early to save a chair! Enjoy snorkeling at the Rainbow Reef lagoon, or feed fish at the Rainbow Reef. Of course, there’s the beautiful beach and lagoon area with beach chairs included in your stay. Cabanas can be rented.
In the mood for a non-water activity? Learn how to hula, make your own Mickey ears, or try t-shirt stamping. There’s also hair braiding, stargazing, ukelele lessons, and more activities that are offered for an additional fee. Or take a guided tour about the art and culture of Aulani, or go on a nature tour.
Meeting characters is always an enjoyable Disney activity, and Aulani has many characters for you to meet! Meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, Goofy, Chip ‘n Dale, Duffy and friends, Stitch, Moana, and more.
For the kids, there’s Aunty’s Beach House with fun games and activities to enjoy.
Enjoy pin trading at the Lava Shack, or visit Kalepa’s Store during pin trading hour.
Dining at the Resort
Enjoy several counter service or table service options at Aulani. Josh shares some of his favorite food and drinks, including some vegan options.
Activities Outside Aulani
Josh and his husband ventured outside the resort for a few special activities, including a Jurassic Park film location tour and a visit to the DOLE plantation.
